Bob Dempsey, Hardin I. “Bob” Dempsey, 90, of Booneville, Arkansas, was born July 4, 1918 in Magazine, Arkansas to Charles Oscar and Nellie Mae ( Hardin) Dempsey. He was called to our Lord on April 29, 2009 in Booneville, Arkansas.

Bob as his friends called him, spent his career working for Southwestern Electric Power Company. He also served as the fire chief for the Booneville Fire Department, and formerly served on the Booneville City Council. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the European Theatre in North Africa and Italy where he was awarded three Bronze Stars. He also served in the Korean War. He was a fifty year member of the Blocker Lodge #247 in Booneville, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Booneville.

Bob spent his retirement years doing what he loved best. He played golf at every opportunity. He was a fixture at the Cherokee Creek Golf Course in Booneville where he fired a hole in one on the eighth hole with and eight iron when he was 88.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Traylor Dempsey.

The family invites you to attend a celebration of Bob Dempsey’s life at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Booneville with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Booneville, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Shellabarger and husband Don of Little Rock, Arkansas; two sons, Gary Lee Dempsey and wife Mary of Russellville, Arkansas, and James Dempsey and wife Debbie of Fort Smith, Arkansas; one brother, Don Dempsey of Russellville, Arkansas; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; Other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers: Billy Smith, Billy B. Cauthron, Bub Curry, Noble Rogers, Bob Hinton,

Honorary Pallbearers: Grandsons, Layton Lee, Scott Shellabarger, Chris Lee, Mark Shellabarger.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Friday Evening at Roberts Funeral Home.
